When you talk to him he tells you he isn't very statisfied about his life so far. After completing Love Story you will have the option to ask him about his mining life. If asked he will give you the Miner's diary. This can be taken to the Wise Old Man to gain the ability to make the Trollheim tablet, by using a Chisel on a Teleport to house tablet.
